The origin of Punch cigars, like many of the oldest cigar brands, is shrouded in mystery and some controversial sources. The official version given by Habanos SA is Punch, which was founded in the mid-19th century and named after a satirical magazine that was popular in Britain at that time. The vision of Don Manuel Lopez of Juan Valle & Co was to use the magazine to establish a position in the British spirit of The Times and give his new brand an advantage in one of the most profitable cigar markets at that time. Other sources have put forward another theory - Punch was actually founded in 1840, a year earlier than the magazine of the same name, by a German named Stockmann. It is said that Mr. Stockmann\'s name was taken from the main characters of the puppet shows in most of the European seaside resorts at that time. No matter which version is correct, one thing is certain: Punch cigars have been around for nearly 200 years and have remained popular throughout their long history.
